ADHD treatment at Lampstand Behavioral Health starts with an honest look at how attention, focus, and follow-through are actually playing out in your life — not a five-minute symptom checklist. Evans Duah, PMHNP-BC, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, offers evaluation, medication management, and therapy for ADHD from the Providence, RI office, or by telehealth across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Arizona, and Colorado. You do not need a diagnosis to get in touch.
The overall prevalence of current adult ADHD is 4.4%, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. A meaningful share of that group wasn’t diagnosed as children — ADHD in adults is often missed or mistaken for anxiety, a mood problem, or simply disorganization, which is part of why a real evaluation, not a quiz, is the starting point here.
The approach
ADHD treatment here is built around how symptoms actually show up for you — at work, at home, in relationships — not just whether you match a list of criteria. A diagnosis describes a problem, it does not describe a person. Your first appointment is a psychiatric evaluation where you and Evans decide together whether treatment looks like medication, therapy, or both.
Trouble starting tasks, losing track of time, restlessness, forgetfulness that gets in the way, and difficulty following through on things you care about are common reasons adults come in — sometimes alongside anxiety or depression, sometimes on their own. Therapy at Lampstand is trauma-informed and LGBTQ+ affirming, and can run alongside medication or instead of it.
Medication
No. Medication is offered, discussed, and explained — it is not a condition of being seen here. ADHD medication works well for a lot of people, but it isn’t automatic, and some patients prefer to start with therapy and structural changes first.
If medication does make sense for you, Evans walks through what it’s for, what to expect, and what the alternatives are before anything is prescribed — and if a prior stimulant or non-stimulant caused side effects that made it hard to stick with, pharmacogenetic testing is sometimes a useful part of that conversation, since it can show how your body is likely to process certain ADHD medications.
Evaluation
Yes. Adult ADHD evaluation is a regular part of care here, including for patients who strongly suspect they had ADHD as children and were never formally assessed. The evaluation looks at your history going back as far as you can recall, not just your symptoms today.
A lot of adults come in uncertain whether what they’re dealing with is ADHD, anxiety, or burnout wearing a similar mask — sorting that out is exactly what the evaluation is for, and you don’t need to arrive with a theory about which one it is.
Getting started
Your first appointment is a full psychiatric evaluation, in person in Providence or by secure video if you’re in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Arizona, or Colorado — and telehealth here isn’t treated as a lesser version of an office visit. Evans reviews your history, current symptoms, and what you’re hoping changes, then proposes a plan with you, not for you.
After that, most people move to shorter follow-up appointments — more frequent while a medication or dose is being adjusted, less frequent once things are stable — to monitor progress and watch for side effects.
Cost
Lampstand Behavioral Health accepts roughly 20 insurance plans. Coverage varies by individual policy, so it’s worth checking yours before your first appointment — self-pay is available either way.

If your plan isn’t on this list, call (508) 258-4801 and ask — it’s often still accepted.
In an emergency, do not use this website or this page. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or go to the nearest emergency room.
